November 07: Site Status
So I've been on for a little over two months now, so where is the rest of the content? Good question. Between work and my private life, not much time has been left for stringtweaker lately. I'm still continuing to crank out transcriptions as they come in, even though it may appear as though not much has progressed on stringtweaker since September 07. Check out the transcription page: Soon the site will begin to have enough transcriptions to warrant a search interface. Although numerous stringtweaker improvements are in the works my site priorities are: 1) transcription requests (always), 2) usage polls and research, 3) the band website template, 4) lessons, and 5) gear info and news. REST ASSURED, I WILL finish the band website template soon. In fact, I've bundled some additional security measures for the database into the package (last weekend), so work is continuing and progress is being made. However, transcription requests keep coming in, and they are the #1 priority.

Got originals?
Do you have any originals? Do you have lots of originals? Do you have a written record of your songs? A you sure you're going to be able to recall how you played something as time goes by? Use StringTweaker to transcribe your tunes for you! You'll have a written record of your original song - yours and only yours forever! Log in, and request a private (or public, if you want) transcription of your original song. In the "special instructions" be sure to give me a url to the audio or send an email to st@stringtweaker.com with the audio file. Stringtweaker will absolutely protect the sanctity of your work and not share your tunes with anyone if you specify one of the "private" transcription options.

StringTweaker 1.0
Finally, I have the first, bare bones edition of StringTweaker published. It took about two weeks of working on it part-time to get this far. Nothing fancy yet, just setup the basic transcription request mechanism.
I'm trying to find out how many people are looking for tabs (or audio, or video demonstration) of how to play a guitar part. There are a million tab sites out there, and sometimes you find a good tab, but a lot of times you don't. You just find what is at best a crappy suggestion. So, if you want to find out how something REALLY goes on guitar, then submit a transcription request and I'll show you. I have some really great technology at my disposal, a great ear, and 26 years of experience to draw on to produce the tabs.
I used to play in a cover band (Monkey Knife Fight, SJ, CA - http://www.mkfrocks.com/) that played covers all night long. So I'm pretty good at figuring out how tunes go, what all the parts are, and getting it all done before Friday night (gig night).
I'm also wondering how many people who are in that same boat (being a working musician) but just don't have the time to figure all of these tunes out. Would you use a transcription service that was quick, cheap and produced high quality tabs and/or demonstrations? Let me know.
If it looks like I get enough interest, I'll turn on some of the more advanced features and get this thing going, so your feedback is crucial to the future of StringTweaker.
Until then, I'll keep operating the site in the low volume, free mode that it is in.
OK, well that's it for my first blog entry... Keep on jammin',
